The first Head of Household competition and nominations of the summer were the focus of the final part of the 2-night season premiere. However, there was a lot more action this first few days than in past seasons, including the first public fight.
We’re going to start things off with the HOH competition. Nicole from Big Brother 16 and 18 came back to host it. The competition involved four separate teams. Mark, Paul, Raven, and Megan made up one team. Cody, Jessica, Dominique, and Matt made up another. Josh, Kevin, Megan, and Jillian made up the third. Ramses, Jason, Christmas, and Alex made up the last team.
There were green apples that each team would have to work together to go one at a time across the ropes with the intention of bringing 8 back before the other teams. The first two teams with 8 would move on, while the last two would be eliminated from contention. There was a twist, though. There was a golden apple that allowed whichever player to take it have safety for the week, but it eliminated all of their teammates from being able to win HOH.
Right as the competition started, Josh went first for his team and immediately took the golden apple for himself, securing his safety, but dooming his teammates. Josh justified himself to his teammates saying that he knows that he’s a target, going on to specifically call out Megan for being a bully and a snake, accusing her of plotting behind his back and allegedly wanting to target him had he not been safe this week. Megan said that she didn’t know what he was talking about and we never got any flashback clips to back up the claims that Josh was making. After the competition was over, Josh would later apologize for the way he acted, but only after calling Megan out in front of the entire house once more.
With only three teams left, it ended up being Cody, Jessica, Dominique, and Matt’s team finishing first, with Mark, Paul, Raven, and Megan finishing second. Each team had to choose just one person to compete for the actual HOH in the last round where they had to balance the apples on a swaying tree. Cody ended up finishing first, making him the first HOH of the summer.

Cody has made an alliance with Mark and Matt, so they weren’t going to be the target. Cody explained in the DR and to Mark that he isn’t buying what Paul is selling, so if given the chance, Cody says that he wants to backdoor Paul. Beyond that, we weren’t given much of a hint going into nominations.
Cody ended up nominating Megan and Jillian, with the explanation that he just doesn’t really like Megan and that he associates Jillian with Megan, making her the logical second choice.
